Private Equity is returning to the spotlight for investors. Within the Private Equity industry a mood of cautious optimism prevails, as transaction volume trends return to normalized levels and capital markets improve. Landmark transactions in the Listed Private Equity sector include the successful £142.4m float of Better Capital Ltd in December 2009, initiated by Jon Moulton, the founder and former managing partner of Alchemy Partners. Additionally Deutsche Beteiligungs AG conducted a successful trade sale of the portfolio company MCE AG in October 2009.
Outperformance is also back again: Private Equity has increased by more than 170% since the low in March 2009 (as measured by the LPX50) and belongs to the best performing asset classes. However Private Equity companies are still trading at deep discounts to their NAV and some are offering attractive investment opportunities.
