In 2021, shares of private equity firms outperformed other sectors, with the LPX Major Market index rising by 72.2%, significantly outperforming the MSCI World Index by 41.3 percentage points. This strong performance is attributed to private equity firms capitalizing on strategic opportunities during the COVID-19 pandemic, and while the extraordinary returns of 2021 may not be repeated, long-term average returns of 10-15% per year remain realistic.
